Individual Emergency Kit

tThis kit is set up for one individual. Depending upon the size of your family will determine how many you will need.

1. Food for three days (about 2,100 calories per day), which does not require refrigeration nor cooking (high energy bars are best).

2. Six liters of water (a liter is just over a quart; three 2-liter pop bottles would work).

3. Sleeping bag or two blankets; plus two large plastic garbage bags - for rain.

4. Warm jacket and hat, plus complete change of clothing (don't forget the underwear and socks).

5. Soap, towel and other toiletries, plus prescription medicines.

6. First aid kit: Band-Aids, antibiotic ointment (such as Neosporin), aspirin, rubbing alcohol, gauze, adhesive tape, sunscreen lotion, Vaseline, Chapstick.

7. Flashlight with extra batteries, solar blanket, knife, can opener, eating utensils, transistor radio with extra batteries and a whistle (to blow if separated from the family. It should have a cord to be worn around the neck).

8. $10-$20 cash, plus $2.00 in coins.

9. Important documents for each one in the family (See the Post, "What to do with Important Documents" to determine what you need).

10. Identification: Personal identification card, personal & family picture, list of relatives and their addresses/phone numbers, and medical alert data for members with special concerns.

11. Container or bag to carry the kit.

Remember, your children may not be able to carry all this. You may need to carry some of their items. Don't forget to rotate your items, such as: food, batteries, and some first aid items. A good rule of thumb is about every 6 months. General Conference is a good time for this. If you have room, you can add some fun items like, books, pen and paper (journal), or scriptures.

These kits would be best used for when the family gets separated from one another.
