Time passes too quickly!

It has been a long time since I have posted anything. I have started a job and my life has changed drastically. I do, however, want to keep this blog up so I am ready to post some new things that I have discovered.

A friend sent me this blogsite. It has a lot of great information on it. She posted a great idea on how to store water barrels. Love the ideas!

Also, I recently ordered shelf milk. It is in a container like Soy Milk, however, it is just milk. My husband used to drink something like it in Portugal when he was on his mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. When I went back with him in 2001, I had the chance to try it. It wasn't so bad. Anyway, I ordered 2%, whole milk and small individual containers of Rootbeer flavored milk. It sounds funny but it is yummy. If you like rootbeer floats, you'll like this milk. They also have chocolate milk, skim, and different sizes also. If you would like more information on ordering, send me a response to this post and I will forward the info on to you.

I continue to find recipes that uses canned, boxed, etc., items and will continue to post those. If you ever have any ideas, please let me know. The more ideas, the better.

What do I get this week?

With the economy like it is lately, it is hard to really stock pile any extra items. However, even if you grab an extra box or can of something, you are adding to your year supply. You can also put some money aside to save for that "rainy day". It doesn't matter how much, it just matters that you are doing something.

Deceptively Delicious by Jessica Seinfeld

You are probably asking yourself, "Why is she promoting this recipe book on my Emergency Preparedness blog?" Well, I belong to a produce co-op and every other week my family receives a laundry basket full of fruits and veggies for $15. Sometimes, we don't eat them fast enough and they go bad. Other times, it is a new veggie and I may not know how to fix it. Or, we get an abundance of something and I get tired of eating it every day. After reading this book, I discovered a new way of preparing some fruits and veggies to be kept in the freezer. Another plus is that I can hide veggies (that my kids won't normally eat) in my meals. Two positives to this that I can see...I am getting my kids to eat more veggies and I am storing extra food. So when I get those beets that I don't normally use, I can prepare them (as suggested in her book) and add them to pancakes, waffles, etc. My kids won't know a thing, other than they look cool because they are pink.

3 Month Dinner Recipes

I recently just finished putting together 13 weeks of dinner recipes using mainly canned, boxed and bagged items. I also was able to build a grocery list on this list. Now, that does not mean that we will only be eating these items. It only means that if we had an emergency and I could not get produce, meat, bread, etc. that I can eat for 13 weeks. I am also pretty close to getting all the items on the grocery list. I say this because when I finished the list and went over what I had, I was pretty close and that gave me encouragement. I am a lot closer than I think. You can do it too! If you need any help, just email me and I'll see what advice I can give you.
