Here is a list of basic items needed for a first aid kit. These can be adapted for use in a small container such as a #10 can to be used as part of a Car Emergency kit, 72 hour kit or travel kit. Or expanded to create an extensive first aid kit for regular use in the home.
Basic Items for #10 can:
1 Triangular bandage
25 bandaids
5 4x4 gauze pads
5 2x2 gauze pads
1 1' roller bandage
1 2' roller bandage
1 roll 1/2' adhesive tape
10 cotton swabs
1 small bar of soap
1 small hand towel
4 large safety pins
1 scissors
1 tweezers
Cold compress
Purified water (eye wash)
Other Items for Expanded Kit:
Tylenol, or other like item
Antibiotic ointment
Alcohol
Hydrogen pyroxide
Calamine lotion
Smelling salts
Ipecac syrup
Desitin
Sunblock
Pepto bismol
Epsom salts
Mineral oil
Latex gloves
Popcycle stick/finger splint
These items can be added to and expanded on according to the needs of your family. Just remember these basic tips:
*Items to stop the bleeding
*Clean the wound
*Protect the wound or injury
*Comfort the injured person
It is also good to have a first aid book/manual. Something that can help with the basics.
