72 Hour Food Kits (For Your Individual Emergency Kit)

There are several different ways to do it so you can customize it to your family. The main thing to remember is that you may NOT have a cooking source. So, here is a general list of items for one person that will not need to be cooked.

DAY 1
Breakfast: 1 Granola Bar or Cereal Bar, Juice Box (or canned juice)
Lunch: Peanut Butter crackers, Raisins, Chocolate or regular milk (in a box)
Dinner: 2 Beef Jerky Strips, Fruit Cup, Pudding
Snacks: 4-6 pieces of hard candy, 3 sticks of gum

DAY 2
Breakfast: 1 pkg. Trail Mix, Juice Box (or canned juice)
Lunch: Cheese Crackers, Fruit cup, Chocolate or regular milk (in a box)
Dinner: Lunch To Go Tuna Packets (come with crackers, mayo, relish & a mint)
Snacks: 4-6 pieces of hard candy, 3 sticks of gum

DAY 3
Breakfast: 1 Granola or Cereal Bar, Juice Box (or canned juice)
Lunch: Fruit Cup, Almonds, Chocolate or regular milk (in a box)
Dinner: 2 Beef Jerky Strips, Fruit Snacks, Pudding
Snacks: 4-6 pieces of hard candy, 3 sticks of gum

3 liters (or more) of water is also needed. You will also need a spoon (or 3, one for each day).

Again, this is just an idea. There are several other items that can replace what is listed. Buy what your family will eat. Other ideas may include: Protein bars, Vienna sausages, Salmon in packages ready to eat (don't forget the crackers), sardines, Gatorade, or Lunch To Go Chicken Salad.

They sell Chocolate Milk in a box (like a juice box) at Costco.

If you think you will have a source of heat to cook, you may add canned soups, Pork and Beans, Chili, canned spaghetti and meatballs, Hot Chocolate, Cup of Soup (just add hot water), or individual packets of oatmeal (just add hot water).

All these items will need to be placed in something. A #10 can, a plastic gallon container, or a quart zip lock bag are examples. Remember to label what will be eaten when so it does not get eaten all at once. Think about what might be needed, specially if you have canned items. You will need a can opener. If you don't have a garbage bag in your Individual Emergency Kit, you may also need a garbage bag.

These items need to be placed in your Individual Emergency Kit and the food should be rotated probably every 6 months. Have your family live off of it for three days and replace the kits with new food. If you have your family eat it, you will know if it is sufficient enough for them to last at least three days in a disaster.
